Leros Greece:
Pictures of Leros island, Dodecanese
:: About Leros Island
Leros is part of the Dodecanese and is
located in the north-western part of the group, between the
islands of Kalymnos and Patmos.
Being for a long time a naval base for Italians and Germans
and a prison for political dissidents during the dictatorship
of Metaxas, Leros has been opened to tourism only very recently
and is still very unspoiled and authentic. Beautiful beaches,
secluded coves and lovely bays are embellishing the coasts
of the island.
Leros also has an attractive countryside and a very appealing
capital.
Leros is blessed with a 60 kilometres coastline
embellished with huge bays and romantic coves.
Tourists visiting the island will find long sandy organised
beaches such as Koulouki (near the harbour), Gourna beach
with its black sand and shallow clear waters, the touristy
beach resort of Alinda, the beautiful beach of Xirokambos
where a diving club is available, Pandeli beach or Agia Marina.
Quitter sandy coves can also be found such as the romantic
beach of Krifo, Blefoutis Bay, Partheni Bay or Vromolithos.
